Sequoia Genealogical Society
The Sequoia Genealogical Society (SGS) is the support organization for the Tulare Public Library’s Genealogy Collection. This organization purchases most of the materials (books, CDs and other media) for the collection.
Volunteers assist patrons in utilizing the collection. Most of the volunteers are SGS members. They organize materials; compile obituaries and various other records for patron’s usage. Additionally, the volunteers provide research assistance for library visitors, mail correspondence, and answer telephone inquiries for those researching Tulare City and County history/genealogy from throughout the United States and other parts of the world.
The SGS meets monthly in the Centennial Room of the Tulare Public Library. Meetings are suspended during the Tule Fog Season (December through February). Meetings generally include guest speakers, but a few are reserved for sharing genealogy finds of members and guests, visit- the-library night, and one annual potluck (usually held in September).
