Read-A-Thon

Tulare READ, one of more than 100 Library Literacy Programs in California, provides FREE, one-on-one, literacy tutoring for adults. Thousands of adults in Tulare struggle to read and write. Tulare READ strives to help these individuals to achieve their goals and function independently in our modern society. We help our learners focus their literacy efforts on things that are meaningful to them. Reading with their children, studying for the GED, filling out forms, grocery shopping, voting, citizenship, and medical visits are all examples.

We provide free books and materials to our learners and free training to our volunteer tutors. Curriculum and pace are developed specifically for each learner. Tutors and learners work together as a team for about an hour every week at a time that is convenient for them. The experience is very rewarding for both learner and tutor.
